The Big Pink's Robbie Furze: 'Why I Punched A Fan'

London electro-rock duo The Big Pink have found themselves in a bit of trouble after one half the pair thumped a fan during a recent show in the US.

Not a band to mess around, the duo’s performances often consist of blaring feedback effects testing their audience to the limit with a straight forward audio assault. However, never resorting to physical violence in the past, singer Robbie Furze was recently drawn into a fight with a gobby member of a stateside audience.

While performing at Atlanta’s Masquerade venue on April 3rd, Furze was continually provoked by a fan throughout the concert. With footage of the incident available to view online, The Big Pink singer explained that it was the first time he had ever punched anyone.

"I've never hit anybody in my life. This guy was just ruining it for everyone. It actually looks like I hit him harder than I did," he said. "I said to him to come onstage and say what he was saying to me from the crowd, and then when he was coming round to the stage I just thought I didn’t really have a chance. What else was I gonna do? I wasn’t going to have a chat with him."

For a moment Furze actually thought about using his guitar against the fan. Explaining that he didn’t want to wreck his axe, “I thought well it was either my fist or my guitar, and I thought 'Well I don’t wanna damage my guitar'."

No legal action has been put forward against the singer, while the band now begins to work on a follow-up to their debut album ‘A Brief History Of Love’. The duo plan to return to New York’s Electric Lady studios to start recording later this year.
