Elaine Paige is an English singer and actress from Barnet, London. She is best known for playing Eva Eva Perón in stage musical ‘Evita’, as well as the hit song I Know Him So Well with Barbara Dickson.
Starting her career in 1964, she made her first professional appearance came as an actress at age 14. Four years later, she made her West End debut. She went on to play Eva Perón in the first production of ‘Evita’, in 1978, for which she won the Laurence Olivier Award for Performance of the Year in a Musical. She also played the role of Grizabella in the first production of ‘Cats’, and had a Top 10 hit in the UK Singles Chart with Memory, as well as starring in the original production of ‘Chess’, which led to another hit, I Know Him So Well, with Barbara Dickson. She released her debut album, ‘Sitting Pretty’, in 1978, and has released dozens more albums across her career. Her 50th anniversary tour in 2014 was allegedly to be her last, but the special farewell shows were followed by a show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre alongside The Royal Philharmonic, with support from both Rhydian and Collabro and she toured her ‘Stripped Back’ show in the winter of 2016.
