G4 are a classical and pop vocal troupe from London, United Kingdom, consisting of Jonathan Ansell (high tenor/lead), Ben Thapa (low tenor), Mike Christie (baritone) and Nick Ashby (bass), who replaced, Matt Stiff in 2014.
The band are known for their classical covers of pop songs, as well as popular opera tunes, such as Bohemian Rhapsody, and Nessun Dorma.
The band formed in 2004 after the members met at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and applied for the first series of ‘The X-Factor’. Mentored by Louis Walsh, they reached the final, and placed second. After the show, G4 signed a £1.5 million album deal with Sony BMG, and had much successes before splitting in 2007. In November 2014, the band reformed for a show at Barbican Hall.
The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 2005, and reached no.1 in the UK Album Chart, selling more than 245,000 in the first week, making it the fastest-selling album of the year. Their second album, ‘G4 & Friends’, was released in November 2005 and included collaborations with Lesley Garrett and Robin Gibb, and reached no.6. The band’s third album, ‘Act Three’ was released on in November 2006.
