Hibernian was formed in 1875, founded by Edinburgh's Irish Catholic community who had settled in Scotland during the 19th century.

The club have been Scottish league champions four times, they've won the Scottish Cup three times, and the Scottish League Cup three times. They also famously reached the semi-final of the first ever European Cup in 1955–56, becoming the first British side to participate in European competition.

The team play their home matches at Easter Road, in the Leith area of Edinburgh, which has been their home since 1893, when the club joined the Scottish Football League. Their local rivals are Heart Of Midlothian, with whom they contest the Edinburgh derby.
