Composer and performer Terry Riley is one of the founders of music’s Minimalist movement. His early works, notably In C (1964), pioneered a form in Western music based on structured interlocking repetitive patterns. The influence of Riley’s hypnotic, multi-layered, polymetric, brightly orchestrated Eastern-tinged improvisations and compositions can be heard across the span of contemporary and popular music.
His work is deeply influenced by both jazz and Indian classical music, and has utilized innovative tape music techniques and delay systems. He is best known for works such as his 1964 composition In C and 1969 album 'A Rainbow in Curved Air', both considered landmarks of minimalist music.
Since 1963, Riley has released over 30 albums, both solo and collaboratively, and his latest was 'G Song', with the Kronos quartet in honour of Riley's 70th birthday. His music has also been used in countless films and soundtracks.
Now, the legendary Terry Riley has announced he'll perform a short run of special dates with his son, Gyan Riley, in some of the UK’s most beautiful venues, including an historic appearance at London’s prestigious Union Chapel.
