30 Seconds to Mars are an American alternative rock outfit hailing from Los Angeles California. Formed in 1998 by respected actor Jared Leto (the band’s frontman), the band cite the likes of Alice in Chains, The Goo Goo Dolls, Deftones, David Bowie, Jane’s Addiction, My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana and Pearl Jam amongst a very long list of inspirational artists.
30STM - which also consists of Leto’s older brother Shannon on drums and Tomo Milicevic on lead guitar - released their eponymous debut album in 2002 and though it’s since sold over two million copies, it was their second record ’A Beautiful Lie’ which catapulted them to international fame, selling four million copies and turning platinum.
Despite a hefty lawsuit filed by their label Virgin Records over a contract dispute (which claimed they had failed to deliver an agreed three albums), their next record ’This is War’ matched that feat, hitting #18 in the Billboard 200. The subsequent touring saw them reaching an unprecedented level of live performing, and their position as rock royalty was confirmed.
In 2013, they returned with their fourth record ’Love Lust Faith and Dreams’, and they once again improved to an even higher level - reaching #6 and #5 in the US and UK respectively, their highest chart position yet.
August 2017 saw them return with a brand new single, Walk on Water, which is the lead single from their up and coming fifth album. This was followed-up with Dangerous Night in February 2018.
Armed with their new material, 30 Seconds to Mars will head to the UK and Ireland for an arena tour in March 2018, before embarking on The Monolith tour of North America in the summer, joined by Walk the Moon, Misterwives, K. Flay, Joywave, and Welshly Arms. They'll also headline a brand new festival, This Is Tomorrow, in May. Sell out crowd, excellent show, loved the acoustic set
Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on November 14 2013
Playing to capacity crowd in the Welsh capital, 30 Seconds To Mars delivered an epic show of fan favourites and theatrics, a mix of the older fan favourites as well as a live showcase of new music from their latest album. The stripped back versions of songs went down particularly well with the crowd too, with frontman Jared Leto taking requests from the crowd. A great night, good to see them back on stage.

Thirty Seconds To Mars have a habit of tapping into the musical zeitgeist. Their self-titled debut capitalised on the fallout from nu-metal at the start of the millennium, while their breakthrough, ‘A Beautiful Lie’, rode high on the emo wave of mid-2000s. More recent releases - ‘This is War’ and ‘Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams’ - followed the trend of infusing anthemic guitar music with outsized electronics.
