Tom Jones Concert Causes Latitude Festival Crush

Last weekend’s fourth annual Latitude Festival nearly experienced catastrophic events when a special late-night Tom Jones concert on the Friday caused a crush to the thousands of fans gathered to see him.

Kicking-off with a shakey start, the announcement of the intimate midnight appearance inspired thousands of fans to flock to the festival’s woodland area to see the Welsh crooner perform the special show. With so many revellers heading to the stage, crushes occurred when security were called in to turn away many fans following the venue reaching its capacity.

The East Anglian Daily Times newspaper reported that, "many (fans) had been left disappointed after officials stopped access to the venue after it reached its capacity."

The newspaper reports further clarified the many Twitter updates emerging from the festival, with one NME journalist tweeting, "the Tom Jones-gig-in-the-woods stunt has caused a massive human crush, hundreds trapped on the bridge, unable to move."

Following the near-disastrous incident, organisers of the festival announced that Tom Jones would to perform again at midday on the festival’s main stage on Sunday 18th July. Playing a warmly received set, the Welshman belted out a few tracks from his new album ‘Praise and Blame’ deciding to leave out sing-a-long favourites ‘Delilah’ and ‘It’s Not Unusual’.

In other news regarding Tom Jones, the singer has revealed that he is set to record a new collaboration with Las Vegas stars The Killers. Speaking before his Latitude performance Jones explained that he had already been in contact with Killers frontman Brandon Flowers and talks were underway.
