Maximo Park's Paul Smith To Release Solo Album

Trying your hand at solo work seems to be the latest fad for today’s indie band frontman. Firstly we had The Strokes vocalist Julian Casablancas flying solo to record his own album, then followed Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke experimenting with a new sound, now Paul Smith of Maximo Park is set to release a solo album later this year.
Set for release in October, Smith’s debut solo album ‘Margins’ has been crafted over the past four years. Releasing his first solo material on his own label ‘Billingham Records’, Paul Smith set to work recording the album with help from co-producer friend Andy Hodson.
Talking about the solo venture, Smith said, “after recording about five or six songs over the course of the last few years I realised I was making an album.” The 13-track “personal and intimate” album has a release date of October 13th and fans unable to wait that long can visit Paul Smith's official website http://www.paulsmithmusic.eu for a free download of first song on the album, ‘North Atlantic Drift”.
If any Maximo Park fans are starting to fear the worst following this news, please take note of Smith’s reassurance that the band are not splitting up. “I’m not ‘going solo’ – it’s not like George Michael leaving Wham!”
