Ayrshire rock trio Biffy Clyro have been announced as headliners for the Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh this New Years Eve.

Topping the bill for the first time at Edinburgh's 'Concert In The Gardens', the show is part of the traditional Scottish Hogmanay festival that celebrates and welcomes in the New Year. Speaking about the headliners, Hogamanay director Peter Irvine told BBC News. “Biffy Clyro are the UK festival band of the year. What better way to see in 2011?”
Not everyone is as thrilled to join the band in welcoming in the New Year though, Events expert Dr Joe Goldblatt of Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh told The Scotsman newspaper that the event should return to its roots. “What we have seen is the growing commercialisation of the event, which has now become about trying to attract the big names in pop and rock music. To an extent, it has moved away from what it was originally meant to be.”
Broadcast live on television, the concert will be in front of up to 100,000 fans. The full line-up for the Scottish capital's concert is yet to be revealed but one thing is certain, Biffy Clyro are sure to blast out anthems such as 'Mountains' and 'The Captain' to see in the New Year.
