The Kooks Admit Beck Has Influenced Their New Album

The Kooks have revealed that Beck, hailed by critics as one of the most creative and idiosyncratic musicians of the past two decades, has had an influence on their up-coming album.

Kooks vocalist Luke Pritchard said "It's quite different - it's still going to be the same kind of roots but we've been getting involved with using different instrumentation an things like that but it's still going to be Kooks".

The new album will be the first LP since 2008's 'Konk', but with Pritchard's admission that their new sound is influenced by Beck, it may leave some Kooks fans dismayed, and others loving their new style.

But while some may be unhappy with a new sound, it could broaden the bands already wide-ranged audience fanbase, maybe even luring some of Beck's fans onto the Kooks fanbase.

The singer also said "Personally I've always had a real thing of keeping it really organic, but this album we're quite Beck influenced in a way, using loops - live drum takes but looping it - I've got quite obsessed with this David Lynch-y eerie synthesiser thing."

The Kooks have also helped record a new silent Christmas song, a cover of John Cage's '4,33', along with Orbital, Pendulum, Suggs (of Madness), Fyfe Dangerfield of Guillemots and Unkle's James Lavelle, in an attempt to stop the potential X-Factor winner taking the Christmas top spot. The project is entitled 'Cage Against The Machine', in reference to Rage Against The Machine campaign which propelled the 90's political rockers to the top of the UK singles chart last Christmas.
