Dave Grohl To Be Crowned ‘Godlike Genius’ At NME Awards

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is to be crowned with the ‘Godlike Genius’ award at the Shockwaves NME Awards next month. The Foo Fighters singer and former Nirvana drummer will collect his award at the O2 Academy Brixton on Febrary 23rd, where Foo Fighters are also scheduled to perform at the awards ceremony.
In an interview with NME, Grohl showed that he clearly isn’t letting the accolade go to his head: "I don't think I'm godlike or a genius. It’s flattering. It's a nice thing to be acknowledged for doing something you love to do, but in truth I don't consider it a body of work because I don't consider it work. I just consider it this incredible luxury that I get to play music and travel the world and feed my kids.”
He continued: “It's pretty great. Awards and lists can get sort of silly sometimes but I'm very appreciative of this. It's really cool!” Grohl will be following in the footsteps of The Cure, U2, Jane’s Addiction, Manic Street Preachers and last year’s ‘Godlike Genius’ Paul Weller in receiving the award.
The awards ceremony is preceded by an extensive NME tour, showcasing up-and-coming talented bands across the country. This year’s tour includes the likes of Mona, The Vaccines, White Lies, The Naked and Famous, Isobel Campbell and Miles Kane, amongst others.NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
