Everything Everything Win South Bank Sky Arts Award

Art-rockers Everything Everything picked up the Times Breakthrough Award at the 15th South Bank Sky Arts Awards on Tuesday. The ceremony, which was held at the Dorchester in London and hosted by former South Bank Show presented Melvyn Bragg, recognises achievements in various categories including music, film, TV, theatre and literature. Another winner in a music category was rapper Plan B, who won the Pop Music award for his soul album ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks’.

Everything Everything released their debut album ‘Man Alive’ in August last year and have since received a great deal of praise in the music press leading up to this latest achievement. The Times Breakthrough Award is the only category in the South Bank Sky Arts Awards that is decided by a public vote. ‘Man Alive’ has also been nominated for this year’s Guardian First Album Award, which is due to be announced on 28th January. Everything Everything are up against nine other artists for the award, including Delphic, Marina and the Diamonds, Rumer and Tinie Tempah.

In a recent interview with Stereoboard, Jonathan Everything said of the album: “It’s been really surprising that we’ve had all this attention, considering we’re making such strange music – it’s not really radio-friendly. That feels like a little victory. I hope that’s inspired some people to have a bit more hope for more unusual music.”

Everything Everything have also been nominated in the Best New Band category at the NME Awards and will be touring with Crystal Castles, Magnetic Man and the Vaccines for next month’s NME Awards Tour. See below for dates.
