Bruno Mars To Plead Guilty To Cocaine Possession

Pop singer Bruno Mars is set to plead guilty to possessing cocaine in an incident which occurred last September. According to a recent media report the singer will receive probation, pay a $2,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service and will be forced to attend drug counselling after being caught with the substance in Las Vegas last year.

Clark County District Attorney David Roger told a Las Vegas newspaper about Mars’s impending sentencing, before continuing to assert that if Mars completes his punishments without raising further trouble then he will be able to withdraw his plea and the case will be dismissed. According to the newspaper this is a common type of sentencing in minor and first-time drug possession charges.

Mars (real name Peter Hernandez), who is currently enjoying chart success with his debut album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ was seen by a bathroom attendant at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel with a bag of white powder in September 2010. The bag was later tested by police and confirmed to be cocaine.

The singer may also be forced to miss the upcoming BRIT awards ceremony, where he is scheduled to perform. The singer is also nominated in the ‘Best International Breakthrough’ category. A source close to the singer said: "This is causing huge panic in the Mars camp. His debut single and album have had instant commercial success but this could put a real spanner in the works. It's no secret that his legal team is working hard to get a deal where he can travel for work. They have to convince the judge that - if he does do a guilty plea deal - he is genuinely sorry."
