Pulp Announced as First Headliner for Norway’s Øya Festival 2011

Reformed Britpop band Pulp are the first headliner to be confirmed for this year’s Øya Festival in Oslo, Norway. Jarvis Cocker’s group will join the event’s previously-announced acts including Bring Me The Horizon, Warpaint and Fleet Foxes.

It was announced towards the end of last year that Pulp would be reforming for a number of live dates during 2011 and they have since been confirmed for several summer festival line-ups including Isle of Wight and Hyde Park’s Wireless. The Sheffield-based group have been on hiatus since 2002, following the release of their seventh album ‘We Love Life’. Since then, frontman Jarvis Cocker has been working on a solo career and has released two albums, 2006’s ‘Jarvis’ and 2009’s ‘Further Complications’.

Øya Festival 2011 will take place from the 9th to the 13th of August and follows last year’s event, which saw performances from the likes of Pavement, MIA, Iggy and the Stooges, the Flaming Lips, the xx and the Specials. The first Øya Festival was held in Oslo in 1999, when it attracted a modest crowd of 1000 people. It has since become one of the biggest events on the Norwegian musical calendar and draws around 60,000 festival goers each year.

Øya Festival has teamed up with Field Day and Club NME for two shows in London this month. The dates will feature performances from hotly-tipped Norwegian and UK acts. Norway’s Lucy Swann and Team Me will join Fiction and Not Squares at the two shows at London’s XOYO on February 24th and KOKO on February 25th.

February 2011

25th - Not Squares + Lucy Swann + Team Me @ London KOKO
