Muse have confirmed that they will start working on their sixth studio album later this year and that it will be recorded in London for the first time.
Speaking to BBC6 Music, frontman Matt Bellamy wouldn’t commit to a definite date saying, “I’d like 2012 if possible but 2013 definitely.”
Speaking about the choice to record in London for the first time in their career Bellamy explained, “It’ll be nice to all be based in the same place, we can go out and socialize. It also means we can make the album over a longer period of time without having to pressurize it into a three-week studio session. You can spread it out more.”
Bellamy and girlfriend Kate Hudson recently announced her pregnancy so this may also be an effort to keep travelling to a minimum during that time and avoiding pressure of a specific date to finish work by. The couple are reported to have purchased a house in London worth around £4,000,000 in the last week.
Currently, Muse are still touring their 5th album, 2009’s ‘The Resistance’, although they don’t have the type of intense itinerary they have been keeping over recent years, calling the dates they are currently playing ‘sporadic touring’. As well as opening for U2 at a handful of Spring shows Bellamy says they’ll play bits and pieces rather than a full tour until the promotion for the new album kicks in.
"We’re trying to do a couple of gigs every month to keep ourselves fresh and keeps ourselves active,” Bellamy said. “Then we probably will start making the album towards the end of the year.”
Muse’s popularity has grown steadily with each album and their material has become more experimental each time with ‘The Resistance’ being the most expansive yet. Their live shows have also become bigger and flashier every year, packing out stadiums everywhere they play.
Stereoboard.com will have all the details on the album and tour as they are announced.
