Beyonce Donates Gaddafi Money To Charity

Beyonce has declared that she has donated money earned through a performance funded by Muammar al-Gaddafi to charity. The singer performed a private concert for the Libyan leader’s family in 2009, earning an estimated $1 million for the evening’s work.

Beyonce sang at a private performance in St. Barts for the 2009 New Year celebrations, earning around $1 million for the event. However, after discovering that the performance fee was funded by the Gaddafi family, Beyonce has chosen to donate the money to charity.

She has donated the unconfirmed amount to an earthquake relief organisation in Haiti.

Speaking about the donation, Beyonce’s publicist Yvetter Noel-Schure said: "All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti over a year ago."

"Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the Gaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause."

Beyonce is the second singer to make such a donation. ‘Say It Right’ singer Nelly Furtado revealed earlier this week that she had also donated a similar $1 million fee to charity after the recent events in Libya.
