Mumford & Sons, BB King, James Blake And Chemical Brothers Confirmed For Glastonbury Festival 2011

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis last night confirmed a list of 14 acts set to join headliners U2, Coldplay and Beyonce at this year’s festival. In an interview with The Guardian the future head of the festival confirmed that Mumford and Sons, BB King, James Blake and The Chemical Brothers would all be playing at this year’s event.

The festival, which takes place from June 24th-26th, will also see performances from Primal Scream, Crystal Castles, Fleet Foxes and Friendly Fires. The list is an early indicator of the diverse talent on display at this year’s event, with a full line-up expected to be revealed within the next few weeks.

The 14 acts announced for Glastonbury Festival 2011:

Anna Calvi
BB King
Big Boi
The Chemical Brothers
Crystal Castles
Friendly Fires
Fleet Foxes
Gruff Rhys
James Blake
Janelle Monae
Laura Marling
Mumford & Sons
Primal Scream
Warpaint

Eavis also took the time to speak about the choice of headliners for Glastonbury 2011. Speaking about the first night’s headliner U2, she said: "when people hear those anthems in that field it will just be amazing, you can't really go wrong with those songs."

She asserted that Saturday’s headliners Coldplay “really understand” the Somerset festival, saying: "I really think they are at their live peak now. They have played together so much, and they give such a powerful live performance."

She also talked about the much-discussed choice of Sunday night headliner Beyonce. Eavis said: "I know she will deliver with her incredible voice and dance moves. I think when you've been in a field for four days you want something from a completely different sphere, that takes you somewhere else. It will be good to get a bit of female power at the end. She'll pack a punch and give us a fitting send off."
