Rihanna “Liberated” By Chris Brown Assault

Thursday, 17 March 2011 Written by James Conlon

Rihanna has this week discussed the positive outcomes of the assault she suffered at the hands of former boyfriend Chris Brown. The Barbadian star, who suffered physical abuse before a Grammy Awards warm-up party in 2009, said that the incident has been “liberating”, helping her to improve her music.

Speaking to Vogue Magazine, she said: "It actually gave me a lot of liberation. What I mean is, I was able to tap into the personal part of my music. I started to tell stories through my music that were actually my stories."

She continued: "It made me look at the world in a much bigger way because my life was suddenly superduper magnified; all eyes were on me. I needed that in my life to know how to say, 'F*ck off!'"

The singer went on to discuss her appearance, which suffered public comment late last year when naked pictures of the star appeared online. She said: "I realized that I actually like my body, even if it's not perfect according to the book. I just feel sexy. For the first time, I don't want to get rid of the curves. I just want to tone it up. My body is comfortable, and it's not unhealthy, so I'm going to rock with it".
