Stereoboard Founder Warns Fans Against Fake Reading & Leeds Festival Ticket Sites

The founder of UK's leading gig ticket comparison site Stereoboard.com is warning music fans of a sharp rise in ‘pop-up’ ticket websites which look like official festival sites, but are in reality scam sites. The fake ticketing websites are taking people’s money online and not delivering tickets.

Stereoboard.com runs a black-list of scam websites to help music fans avoid being ripped off, and have issued the warning ahead of tickets going on sale for the August bank holiday Reading and Leeds Festivals at 7.30pm this evening (Monday March 21st). The ticket scam black-list can be viewed at: www.stereoboard.com/ticket-scams. An example of a fake festival website can be seen at: www.v-festival-2011.com.

Stereoboard founder Nigel Sachdev said: “We uncovered a rash of scam ticket websites which sprang up around the T in the Park and the V Festival earlier this month, we assisted Google in identifying these sites and getting their advertising cut within hours of going live.

“The problem is at its worst around the large summer festivals, which can typically sell out within 30 minutes of tickets going on sale, leaving people desperately searching online for tickets. They find a site which carries the festival in the domain name and looks official with plenty of festival information and they are hooked.

“It is a ticket time-bomb waiting to explode as many thousands of people will be blissfully unaware they have been scammed, and most will only discover it much closer to the event when no tickets arrive. There will be many thousands of unhappy punters this summer.”

Last month Stereoboard produced a viral video to warn fans against disreputable tout ticket sellers. ‘Access All Areas’, which has received over 25,000 views so far, follows the fate of a group of music fans who opt to go ‘off road’ obtaining their tickets unofficially, to blag their way backstage at a major gig. They ultimately get left out in the cold in the video. The film can we viewed at www.youtube.com/StereoboardTV or you can of course view the video below.
