Canadian hardcore punkers Fucked Up have revealed details of their new album ‘David Comes to Life’, which is due for release on 7th June. The album is named after a track on their 2006 debut ‘Hidden World’ and has been described as a punk rock opera. A new song entitled ‘The Other Shoe’, which will be included on ‘David Comes to Life’, can be heard on the Matador Records website. Fucked Up will also play some live dates in the UK in May ahead of the album’s release. See below for details.
Speaking about ‘David Comes to Life’ on their blog, the band said: “If you've been paying attention to our band for the last few years, you probably are aware that we've been joking/threatening the fact that we were working on a musical/rock opera/themed album/play/whatever. We decided the only thing more ridiculous than putting out a 73-minute punk record, was to just say fuck it and do a musical.”
‘David Comes to Life’ follows Fucked Up’s 2008 album ‘The Chemistry of Common Life’, which won the 2009 Polaris Music Prize – the Canadian version of our own Mercury Prize. The band have been noted in the past for other odd publicity stunts, including a 12-hour-long public gig in New York and the release of a cover version of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’. They are also one of the few heavy bands to have played at Glastonbury Festival in recent years.
