Jessie J “Inspired By Lil Wayne”

Tuesday, 05 April 2011 Written by James Conlon

Jessie J has paid homage to US rap star Lil Wayne, stating that she would love to work with him if the chance ever came about. The ‘Do It Like A Dude’ star, who has seen great success in Europe in recent months with her debut LP ‘Who You Are’, stated that Lil Wayne was even the inspiration behind her album track ‘Rainbow’.

Speaking to Rap-Up, the Essex-born singer said: "I was obsessed with Lil Wayne at one point. [‘Rainbow’] is basically about how we're all colours of the rainbow and how we need to share the pot of gold. We all may be different, but we're all the same really.”

She continued: "Everyone bleeds red and we all get blue sometimes. The lyrics are a play on words with colours, but my delivery is very like yup, yup, still very Lil Wayne-y. It's one of my favourites."

When asked if she would ever like to work with the US star, she replied: "That would be like a dream. I think he's incredible and I love his swagger. I feel like he should win an award for how he acts in videos. I think he's one of those one-take people who rolls in, does a sick take, and just rolls out. Lil Wayne and Nicki [Minaj], those two are killin' it right now."

Jessie J is currently promoting her debut album ‘Who You Are’ before it is released in the US. You can watch her performing on ‘Saturday Night Live’ below:
