My Passion - Inside This Machine (Album Review)

Having had their follow up to ‘Corporate Flesh Party’ sitting in waiting for around a year, My Passion can breathe a sigh of relief and the fans can become amped with excitement as ‘Inside This Machine’ is finally about to be unleashed into the world.

Mechanically welcoming you into their second musical instalment with ‘Into This Machine’, the clattering of scrap turns rhythmical before an eruption and continues at full throttle into ‘Seven Birds’.

ImageDescribed earlier in the month by Laurence, he himself claims “the album has a lot of dynamics and emotions” and that is certainly a fair judgement. Undeniably, there’s that upbeat, dance-esqué vibe throughout, but there are numerous visible influences to flaunt their diversity within their own honed sound. They’re slow and acoustic at points, they’re riff-heavy and headbanging at others.

‘The Mess We’ve Made of Our Lives’ and ‘The Girl Who Lost Her Smile’ are full of anarchic combinations that you can’t help but move to. ‘Shaking the Dead’, a personal favourite, misleadingly builds up what appears to be a quiet song. Gradually, you’ll find it navigates easily from smooth listening to being pumped full of aggressive sound in the climax.

Admittedly, My Passion are a band that divide the masses from the off – a fact the band themselves have come to accept. There’s enough variety in this album to surely appeal to even critics in some form or another. My Passion fans may ask – was it worth the wait? Yes would be the answer to their question. A lot of heart, soul and influence has gone into this album and it will undoubtedly turn a few heads in the right direction.
