Demi Lovato Leaves Disney’s ‘Sonny With a Chance’

Teen actress Demi Lovato has announced that she will be departing from her long-term role on Disney’s ‘Sonny With a Chance’, choosing instead to focus on her music career. The young star checked herself into a treatment facility late last year to deal with “emotional and physical issues”, and has chosen not to immediately step back into her old role following her recovery.

Lovato told People magazine that she didn’t “think going back to 'Sonny' would be healthy for my recovery", choosing instead to focus on the follow-up to her Number One sophomore album, ‘Here We Go Again’.

In an official statement, Disney have stated that they respect Lovato’s decision, but were keen to place emphasis on the idea that Lovato’s absence was not a permanent one. The network will continue to produce a version of the show without Lovato, which has been renamed ‘So Random’.

Speaking to ABC News about her recent problems, Lovato said: "I've spoken openly about being bullied throughout the past few years, but one thing that I've never been able to feel comfortable talking about was the effects that it had on my life, afterwards."

Discussing her problems with bullies, Lovato continued: "I literally didn't know why they were being so mean to me. And when I would ask them why, they would just say, `Well, you're fat.”
