Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has revealed that he recently performed classic Nirvana track ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ for the first time in almost two decades. The singer admitted that he decided to revisit some songs from his Nirvana days during a recording session with the band’s bassist Krist Novoselic.
Novoselic chose to lend a hand to his former bandmate during the recording stages of Foo Fighter’s Number One album ‘Wasting Light’. Just to add more nostalgia to the equation, Butch Vig (of Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ fame) also earned production credits on the Foo’s latest LP.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Grohl said: "I just thought, 'What a trip to sit with Krist and Butch [Vig] and Pat [Smear] in the studio together', because that was never supposed to happen again."
He continued: "I hadn't played that song in 18 years, I haven't even played the drum beat to that song in 18 years. We ended the song and look at each other like, 'That was strange'."
Novoselic can be heard performing on ‘I Should Have Known’, the penultimate track on Foo Fighter’s seventh studio album, ‘Wasting Light’. The album earned the UK Number One position last week, before being knocked from the top spot by a resurgence in sales for Adele’s hugely successful sophomore effort, ‘21’.
