Rebecca Black Asks Listeners To Take Her Seriously

Internet sensation Rebecca Black has expressed her frustration with responses to her debut track ‘Friday’, declaring that she wishes to be taken seriously as a recording artist. The young singer, who has currently racked up over 120 million views on YouTube, is expected to release her second song in the near future, the tentatively-titled ‘LOL’.

The 13-year-old singer has had a difficult time since releasing her much-criticised debut ‘Friday’ on YouTube, even receiving a number of death threats which are now being investigated by her local police.

Speaking to The Associated Press, Black described her frustration, saying: "I don't want to be known as the 'Friday' girl. Hopefully, I can be known as Rebecca Black and not the 'Friday' girl. I want to be a performing artist - that's what I've always wanted to do."

She continued, asserting that she does not want viewers to judge her based simply on her debut effort: "I want to see everyone's opinion of my actual voice... I don't care if they love it. I don't care if they hate it. Well, I'd like it if they loved it, but I just want to hear their opinion."

Black has picked up a number of major-name fans after the exposure from her debut track, receiving personal messages of support from figures including Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Simon Cowell.
