The Fresh & Onlys Head To The UK For Trio of Shows

The Fresh & Onlys will hit the UK this week for a trio of shows across England and Scotland, kicking off tonight at Leeds' Brunell Social Club.

The Fresh & Onlys have, in their short history, already released a flurry of 7"s, a limited-edition cassette, and two full-length albums (on Castleface and Woodsist) Play It Strange is San Francisco’s Fresh & Onlys’ first for the legendary In The Red Records and third album total in less than three years.

Led by singer Tim Cohen's hazy romanticism, guitarist Wymond Miles' sonic textural sprawl and the incessantly propulsive rhythms of Shayde Sartin and Kyle Gibson, Play It Strange is a record of moody swagger, wild pop, shimmering melodic hooks and BIG BEAT with a provocative rawness ala Iggy Pop or The Gun Club.

With pointers ranging from Violent Femmes, 13th Floor Elevators to early 80s British indie-pop and a nod towards the Australian underground scene of the same decade, Play It Strange, the band’s most recent album via In The Red, highlights the band’s ability to create pop music that’s skewed yet perfect.

Produced and recorded by Tim Green (The Fucking Champs, Comets on Fire) at his home studio, Louder, the band were able to indulge their longtime obsessions with 70s/80s guitar pop like The Soft Boys, The Go-Betweens, Mekons, Jacobites, The Plugz. As well as allowing the band to experiment with a range of instruments they would not necessarily have at their disposal – the baritone guitar, Vibraphone and the ARP synthesizer liberated and inspired the band helping them shape melodies, capture the muscularity and depth of the band's live performances and add extra re-vamp to their sound.

Play It Strange is an addictive record that will establish the Fresh & Onlys as a band that effortlessly laces together threads of great guitar bands from decades past.

The band have toured extensively across the US including SXSW, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Pop Montreal, etc appeared as the backing band on several occasions for Sixto Rodriguez and more recently supporting, CLINIC, Vetiver and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the band will return to the UK - following on from their shows with Deerhunter last year - on 9th May before heading off for Primavera Festival in Barcelona laster this month.

The Fresh & Onlys upcoming European tour dates:

09th May - Leeds Brudenell Social Club
10th May - Glasgow Stereo
11th May - London Hoxton Bar & Grill
27th May - Barcelona Primavera Sound
