Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Jacket Set For Auction

Tuesday, 07 June 2011 Written by James Conlon

Possibly one of pop music’s most iconic garments, the red jacket from Michael Jackson’s famous ‘Thriller’ video is set to go up for auction. The renowned jacket will be the prize attraction at a two day ‘Music Icons Auction’ set to take place at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles later this month.

The jacket, which has been given an estimated sale price of $200,000-$400,000, will be sold in a collection of 600 iconic items from the musical past, including items from The Beatles, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Eric Clapton and Kurt Cobain.

The jacket was originally given as a gift to Jackson’s long-time costume designers Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins. When offered to the pair, Jackson wrote on the inside lining of the jacket: “To Bush and Dennis, All My Love, Michael Jackson”. The sleeve has also been signed “Love Michael Jackson”.

The auction will take place on June 25th and 26th, and a portion of the proceeds from the jacket will go to The Shambala Preserve, the home of Jackson’s two Bengal tigers, “Thriller” and “Sabu.”
