Iconic Icelander Björk has unveiled plans for a three-year project in which she will be combining her musical talent with her scientific intelligence to create an ‘educational tour’.
The singer-songwriter has eight 6-week ventures planned for at eight major cities over across the world, and each ytip will incorporate live performances of songs, scientific demonstrations, learning courses for children and education in science and music.
The project has been planned in conjunction with her new album ‘Biophilia’ (out in Septemeber), which sees Björk take a new approach to her production. Described as a ‘multimedia collection’, Biophilia will encompass music, apps, internet, installations, and live shows into one album. She will debut some of the material from Biophilia this summer at the Manchester International Festival, but this will only be a taste of the musical project that Björk will be embarking on soon.
“It felt like the music industry was off the grid, and I wanted to solve the riddle,” said the innovational singer. "I could do whatever I wanted, I would just be there and people would come to me,". So, why not make the most of the unlimited pairs of ears she had and try and educate people?
She will be spending six weeks in each individual city and putting on two performances a week, and then spending the remaining time hosting events where kids can come and learn and play with iPads and various musical instruments that will be available. Bjork has also revealed that she will be releasing 10 iPad apps, one for each of the songs on her new album, along with the tour.
Bjork has a number of UK dates coming up this summer. For ticket information and dates, see below.
