Tim Minchin To Open Greenman Festival

Good news for people attending 2011’s Greenman festival today as Australian comedian/musician Tim Minchin has revealed he will be giving a very special performance to open the festival.

Minchin will bring his unique style of comedy meshed with piano to the festival, kicking the whole weekend off on Thursday 18th August. Currently in the US after a blockbusting UK arena tour where he performed with a 55 piece orchestra, he’s clearly excited about his debut appearance at the festival saying;

“People say Green Man is fantastic and not overgrown and overblown. I'm in the States at the moment, playing smaller rooms with just me and my piano…and loving it. I'm really looking forward to getting back to solo gigs in the UK.”

Thursday will also see the start of the fun at Chai Wallahs kick-off blasting out a line-up which includes a mixture of reggae, rap, hip-hop, world, dub, techno and dance music alongside sets from six live bands and DJ’s.

If all that isn’t enough for your tastes, the usual assortment of locally produced gourmet food and drinks will be on sale across the site for your enjoyment as well as literature, film and various other hidden surprises to complement the fantastic line-up of music and comedy.

Greenman is preparing for its ninth year and the event, held at Glanusk Park in the beautiful setting of the Brecon Beacons, is close to selling out so if you don’t yet have your ticket yet use the link below to get them before they’re all gone!

Greenman 2011 runs from 18th-21st August and will be headlined by Iron & Wine, Explosions In The Sky and Fleet Foxes while the likes of Gruff Rhys and Laura Marling also feature on the impressive bill.
