Mercury Prize 2011 Nominees Announced

The nominations for this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize were announced this morning, revealing a shortlist which combines chart toppers and relative unknowns for one of the most diverse awards in the British music calendar.
The nominations were streamed online for the first time, with Lauren Laverne presenting the announcement via Barclaycard’s official Facebook page. The announcement was hosted by the Hospital Club in Covent Garden.
The overall winner of the 2011 Barclaycard Mercury Prize will be decided and revealed on the night of the awards show, which will be broadcast live on BBC2 on Tuesday 6th September.
The ceremony itself is to be hosted by Jools Holland, who will announce which act will follow in the footsteps of The XX, who won the award last year with their self-titled debut LP.
