The Green Man Poll Winners 2011 are Will & The People!
The Green Man Festival is special in many ways, just one of those being Green Poll. Green Poll is a unique competition that gives unsigned bands the chance to open the festival on the Main Stage. This year saw hundreds of entrants whittled down to just five by public votes. The lucky final five were: Hullabaloo, Hunting Bears, Rusty Shackle, The Seazora and Will & The People.
This past Thursday, the 14th, the five bands battled it out for the chance of a lifetime in front of 5 judges at The Camden Monarch. The judges included the editor-in-chief of MOJO Magazine, Moshi Moshi’s label boss, the man responsible for Domino Records’ A&R and Huw Stephens himself. The bands went toe-to-toe and after what is said to be an extensive amount of deliberation, Will & The People were named Green Poll winners.
So who are Will & The People? Well they’re four guys originating from London who have blended reggae, house, rock and folk to create music which translates anywhere they play. They’ve busked the streets of London and Paris, played the famous Paradiso in Amsterdam as well as well as a boat in the Monaco harbour. They’re intent on spreading love and vibes with their simple instrumental and stunning harmonies, opening up The Green Man Festival is sure to be a special moment for them, let alone the huge crowd they are sure to attract.
Will & The People are joining Explosions in the Sky, Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes, Laura Marling, Gruff Rhys and Noah and the Whale in a line-up that is surely one of the best of the festival season. Green Man Festival runs from 18th-21st August in South Wales’ beautiful Brecon Beacons.
