Katy Perry And Lady Gaga Banned In China

The music of artists including Katy Perry and Lady Gaga has been banned in China as a result of a new ‘black list’ from the country’s Ministry of Culture. Several songs from both artists have been deemed unplayable in the country, banned from being played on the radio or performed live due to their ‘vulgar content’.

Songs including Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ were not approved by the Chinese authorities, and as a result must be removed from any Chinese websites by September 15th or the owner will face punishment.

Lady Gaga managed to knock up six songs on the banned list, and as of September 'The Edge of Glory', 'Hair', 'Marry the Night', 'Americano', 'Judas' and 'Bloody Mary’ will not be allowed to be played in the country.

Neither Gaga or Perry have offered a statement on the developments as of yet. However, the two singers are not the only artists affected by the new ‘black list’ – other songs including Backstreet Boys’ ‘I Want It That Way’ have also been banned from the country. The Chinese government are yet to offer their reasoning behind song selection.

Earlier this year Bob Dylan embarked on a small tour in China, however there are reports that the veteran singer’s set was dogged by censorship, forcing the ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ star to perform from a list of approved tracks.
