The Mission to Help Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Bristol O2 Academy

Leeds-based goth rockers The Mission are to start their 25th Anniversary Tour next month with a date at Bristol’s O2 Academy, helping to celebrate the venue’s own 10-year anniversary. Later in October, the band will go on to perform at London’s O2 Academy Brixton, followed by a homecoming show at O2 Academy Leeds – see below for all dates and tickets.

Speaking about the upcoming date, The Mission’s Bristol-born frontman said: “I have lived all over the world for the last 20 years, but I still think of myself as a Bristol lad, born and bred. I have many family members living in and around Bristol so I’m fortunate to be able to visit three or four times a year and it always amazes me just how much it changes each time. A vibrant city, some of my favourite music has come out of Bristol. Having the opportunity to open The Mission's 25th anniversary tour in the city of my birth, somehow seems apt to me and completes the cycle. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Bristol Academy first opened on 19th November 2001 with a gig by Ocean Colour Scene and has since played host to over 2,500 events. Speaking about the venue’s upcoming anniversary, general manager Josh Westaway said: “We’ve had so many wonderful gigs at O2 Academy Bristol. It’s impressive to look back and see the wealth of talent, who were once second or third on the bill, and are now selling out their own headline shows. We remember the likes of Arctic Monkeys supporting Maximo Park in 2006, Estelle playing with The Roots in 2004, Devlin and Ed Sheeran with Example in 2010 and Kasabian supporting The Cooper Temple Clause in 2003. The list goes on.”

The Mission were first formed in 1986 following the break-up of The Sisters of Mercy and have since sold over 4-million albums and had 14 UK Top 40 singles.

Mon October 10th 2011 - O2 Academy Bristol, Bristol
Sat October 22nd 2011 - O2 Academy Brixton, London
Fri October 28th 2011 - O2 Academy Leeds, Leeds
