Cardiff Rock Club Fuel To Celebrate 5th Birthday In Style

If you’ve been to a metal gig in South Wales or the West Country in the last year or so there’s every chance you’ve seen people wearing black T-shirts with ‘FUEL’ emblazoned across the front and ‘Pure Welsh metal’ in huge writing on the reverse. In which case you’ve come across some of the ‘Fuelers’ who attend Pure nightclub’s Fuel Rock Club every Saturday.

Saturday 10th September will see Fuel Rock Club celebrate its’ 5th anniversary and everyone’s invited to the party. After starting out in a basement club in Riverside, the nights’ popularity rose quickly and forced it into a bigger city centre location at Pure night club, situated just off Westgate Street.

Over the years there have been visits by members of Motorhead including drummer Mikkey Dee, Sepultra, The Fuel Girls, Napalm Death, Dirty Sanchez, Atreyu, Revoker, Hed(PE), Funeral For A Friend and Katatonia. Local band Tigertailz even used the club as the venue for a live album this year (‘Besrerk Live: Burnin’ Fuel’).

Fuel founder and DJ Rob Toogood told Stereoboard about some of the most memorable moments of the clubs half decade:

"My best moments are drinking with Sepultra until 4am and meeting the drummer from KISS, Eric Singer. The worst moment was being 30 minutes away from having Lemmy at the club only to have him decide to go to a strip club instead! But the best thing about starting Fuel is all the great friends that I’ve met and never having to go to a gig alone again!"

When describing what to expect from the celebration night Rob told us to "Expect cake, crisps, sweets and fizzy pop. Oh, and not forgetting vast amounts of booze and several thousand watts of METAL!!!!!!"

Entry is £4 and doors open at 10pm, closing at 3am. The club is strictly over 18’s. Pure nightclub is located on Guildhall Place, Cardiff, between Westgate Street and St Mary’s Street.
