Singer-songwriter David McAlmont has announced that he has teamed up with artist Guy Davies to form the new band Fingersnap. The duo will release their debut EP ‘Smokehouse’ on 14th November. Watch the video for their track ‘I Wanna Rise’ below. Fingersnap will also be performing a number of live dates in November – see below for tickets.
McAlmont, who is probably known best for his work with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler and composer David Arnold, has previously worked with Davies on his solo albums ‘A Little Communication’ and ‘Set One: You Go To My Head’.
Speaking about the new collaboration, McAlmont said: “Earlier this year Guy and I went to Ireland to write and play some gigs. The writing that emerged was tougher, starker and more conscious than anything I’d done before and it felt like a new statement, a new band. It felt like the new material would perfectly book-end the last 20 years of the ‘McAlmont Thing’ so we decided that it should be called something new and after much deliberation, we finally settled on Fingersnap.”
Going on to talk about the band’s music, Davies added: “We took an objective look at what we were playing live since we got back together in summer 2010 and realised we wanted to inject tempo, attitude and a general ‘up-ness’ to the proceedings. This in turn revealed a more soulful attitude in David’s vocal execution and also enabled us to wig-out as a band.”
