Discounted Britney Spears Tickets Sparks Voucher Site Dispute

Music industry workers have been split by a decision to begin selling tickets for discount prices after Britney Spears tickets were shifted on voucher sites Groupon and Travelzoo for half of their original price.
With some tickets still left to sell for her UK tour, concert organisers Live Nation worked with the sites to sell another 5,000 tickets before it kicked off earlier this month. But, the move has apparently split the industry in two, with some arguing in favour of the discounted ticket prices and some entirely against it.
Travelzoo manager Rene Freling revealed: “We are starting to see a few more pop events being promoted. Promoters are thinking, instead of shows being 90% sold out, they'd rather have it full and promote it to a wider audience.”
One promoter has described the idea as “incredibly damaging” but Melvin Benn, chief of Festival Republic, which organises festivals like Reading and Leeds, said: “It's been demonstrated to work and works particularly well for an awful lot of concerts. It's definitely emerging. In tough economic times people will look at varying ways of pricing their tickets.”
Although he thinks the trend ‘undoubtedly works’, he did reveal that he wouldn’t be using the method for his own festivals – suggesting there were some problems with it.
“People would come to expect it year on year, It would damage the viability of the festival in the long-term,” Ben admitted.
