Kelly Rowland Slams Illegal Downloading As "Stealing"

American R&B star and X-Factor judge Kelly Rowland has told of her passionate hate of illegal downloads, likening the act to stealing.

In a week which has seen Canadian rap sensation Drake’s album ‘Take Care’ leak over a week before its scheduled release date, Rowland has hit out at bootleggers and pirates who share and download artist’s tracks and albums for free, causing musicians like herself to lose money.

“I hate illegal downloads - I think it’s just downright stealing,” Rowland angrily told Music Week. “But as far as legal digital downloading… I think that it’s a different experience for this generation. I was coming up in a generation where you were waiting to get another [physical] album.”

Kelly continued on to talk about the excitement she’d get as a kid when she was waiting for a physical LP rather than a digital download.

“It was the anticipation of waiting for an album, the excitement for hearing the single on the radio for the first time to seeing the pictures that came out, to actually calling and requesting the song on the radio,” Rowland reminisced. “Going to get the album and looking at all the artwork - you’re excited about it! Those experiences are awesome but everybody has their experience different now - it’s just like with everything - you continue to grow and everything’s evolving.

The statement may indicate the rising pressure surround the singer as she gears up for her single and album release coming up later this month, which Rowland will be hoping don’t leak prior to their November 28th release date. Here I Am is her third studio album, and features the RedOne produced track ‘Down For Whatever’, which hits shelves a week before the album on November 21st.
