We Are Augustines’ Debut Named Best Alternative Album Of 2011 By iTunes

Saturday, 10 December 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

We Are Augustines’ debut album ‘Rise Ye Sunken Ships’ has been named as Best Alternative Album in the iTunes Rewind 2011 round-up in the US. The album is due for release in the UK on 5th March 2012. The New York trio will play at XFM’s Winter Wonderland in Brixton O2 Academy on Wednesday 14th December alongside Kaiser Chiefs, The Maccabees, The Horrors and Band of Skulls.

We Are Augustines completed a UK tour with Glasvegas in October. They have been confirmed for HMV’s Next Big Thing festival in February 2012, when they will perform a headlining date at the Borderline in London on Thursday 2nd February. Ahead of this week’s show as part of the XFM Winter Wonderland, We Are Augustines will play two fee gigs in the capital - see below for dates.

The band’s frontman Billy McCarthy recently told Stereoboard why they enjoy coming over to the UK: “Every time we've ever been here it's been great for so many different reasons. I find that the energy at shows is really present here in the UK. We also enjoy getting out into the crowd after the shows and learning about where people are coming from. Wales, Scotland, the coast etc. These were once places that only existed on a map. Now we get to perform and get to know folks personally. It’s basically a dream come true.”

We Are Augustines UK Live Dates are as follows:

Monday 12th December 2011 – Last.fm, The Book Club, London (Free entry)
Tuesday 13th December 2011 – The Wheelbarrow , London (Free entry)
Wednesday 14th December 2011 – XFM Winter Wonderland, 02 Brixton Academy, London
Thursday 2nd February 2012 – HMV Next Big Thing, The Borderline, London
