Grammy-Nominated Country Singer Gretchen Peters Announces New Album ‘Hello Cruel World’

Saturday, 10 December 2011 Written by Rob Sleigh

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Gretchen Peters has announced the release of her seventh solo album ‘Hello Cruel World’. The album is due out on 30th January 2012 and is the follow-up to 2008’s ‘Northern Lights’. Peters has also revealed details of a tour of UK and Ireland in March and April – see below for dates.

In addition to her own music, Peters has previously written songs for the likes of Neil Diamond, Martina McBride, Etta James, and Trisha Yearwood. In 1995, she was nominated for a Grammy Award for McBride’s song ‘Independence Day’, which won Song of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards. Peters released her debut solo album ‘The Secret of Life’ in 1996.

Speaking about ‘Hello Cruel World’, Peters said: “In 2010, the universe threw its best and its worst at me. Some of it was personal, some global. All of it seemed to demand that I redefine my ideas of permanence and re-evaluate what I believe in, to literally rethink what is real. After the trials of the past year, I felt raw, open. I wanted to write songs that hurt. I wanted to write songs that were brutally honest. I knew it would be a dark album, and I knew it might be off-putting for some. But I felt I had survived the battering of both the natural world and my own interior one for a reason.”
