English singer-songwriter Jessie J has claimed that the mini-stroke she suffered at age 18 has helped her become a better person and artist.
Jessie suffered from a handful of health problems in her teens, the most serious of which was a stroke at the young age of 18. But, that scare has actually proved to have a positive effect on the singer, who said that the ordeal has helped her appreciate life and want to get her music out there.
“I think what happened to be with my health in the past - when I was younger I had a minor stroke - it made me realise that you can't guarantee life every day,” Jessie told Contact Music. “However old you are, however much you love life, however happy you are, however healthy you are, it doesn't matter, nothing's guaranteed. And I think it made me want to take that risk to expose myself as me and not as a version of myself.”
She went on to talk about stage personas – saying that she is Jessie J on and off the stage. “I don't become Jessie J. I might put a nice pair of heels on and a cooler outfit but I'm still that naughty girl who likes a slice of cheesecake on my day off.”
Jessie J is performing at the Wireless Festival on July 8th alongside some of the biggest names in pop - such as Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Labrinth. Check below for tickets.
