Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Releases New Statement Following Cancer Diagnosis

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi has issued a statement regarding his recently diagnosed lymphoma cancer.

Earlier this week Stereoboard reported that Black Sabbath guitar legend Tony Iommi had been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma cancer. The news was revealed via a statement from the band, which prompted millions of messages of support and concern from fans and fellow artists.

Today, Tony Iommi has posted a thankful and optimistic statement on his official website revealing “how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support”. The guitarist also reveals how excited he is about getting back to work on Black Sabbath's brand new studio album, their first to feature the original line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler since 1978's 'Never Say Die'. Check out Tony's statement below.

My fans, friends & colleagues -

I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.

Well it’s not what I wanted for Christmas, that’s for sure, but now I can’t wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.

It’s really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.

Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.

Bless you all,
Tony

Reports recently surfaced that Black Sabbath had to pull out of a planned headline performance at Spring’s Coachella festival in California. While there has been no official changes in the band's tour plans as yet, Tony's treatment looks set to change the forthcoming Black Sabbath tour that is due to kick-off in May.

Check back to Stereoboard for the latest news on the guitarist's cancer treatment, once again, we'd like to wish the Tony all the best for a speedy recovery.
