Doctors Warn Of Latest Legal High 'Roflcoptr'

Doctors have warned of a new research chemical which is being used in festivals and clubs which could potentially have detrimental effects on users – and it’s got a name which beats the now outlawed ‘Meow Meow’.

Image‘Roflcoptr’ a.k.a MXE, or Methoxetamine, has been making its way into Britain via internet suppliers in the same way that Meow Meow or Mcat managed to ‘burst’ into the club scene in the past couple of years. While Mcat was a legal replacement for MDMA, the active ingredient in Ecstasy, MXE is considered a counterpart for horse tranquiliser Ketamine, which has been popular in the ever-increasing dubstep scene. But, it’s been said that MXE has much stronger and more powerful effects than Ketamine, and can last a lot longer.

After creating a survey of drug users, Mixmag magazine reported that MXE had had a major increase in usage, with users describing the effects as “feelings of warmth and enlightenment”, while also giving you a hallucinogenic trip.

One participant, who ended up watching a Kate Bush video while tripping, wrote: “I was in the video, actually inside the frame. I forgot where I was, what I was listening to, everything. I was that snowman, and I'm not usually prone to hallucinations. I don't even like Kate Bush.” Another added that he was “on it at Glastonbury. When a mate shat himself, rather than take the piss out of him, we were just really understanding.”

But, while those effects may sound appealing to some (minus the shitting pants part), doctors at the University College London have warned that as there is no known studies involving the chemicals, which aren’t allowed to be sold for human consumption, they were playing Russian roulette with their lives.

“People are playing Russian roulette when they take something like this,” Dr Curran said, “because there's been no research on its effects.” Another doctor, Dr Adam Winstock, added: “[People on MXE] aren't too preoccupied with the world around them and they go off into the world within them.”
