Marcus Collins Faces Criticism Over Debut Single

Liverpool-based X-Factor runner-up Marcus Collins has received a bit of stick from rock fans after covering a White Stripes track for his first single – but claims that he doesn’t care how much abuse he gets, saying he ‘can’t please everyone’.

Collins has covered the White Stripes massive hit ‘Seven Nation Army’ and plans to release it as his proper debut single – something which White Stripes fans aren’t too happy about. But the complaints won’t be stopping the 23 year-old, saying that fans shouldn’t worry as his version doesn’t ‘detract’ from original – which he reminds his haters came out in 2003.

“I’ve had plenty of abuse from White Stripes fans, believe you me,” Collins confessed. “I’ve quickly learned I can’t please everyone, and a lot of people have got a lot of opinions on the song, shall we say.

“I like it, my friends and family love it, the people here at my record label love it, and if people don’t like the version that’s being released, there are plenty of other versions they can listen to instead – we’ve done a dubstep remix and some others.

“And, you know, if they hate my version so much, they can always listen to the original White Stripes version. Why are they listening to me if they don’t like it? My covering the song doesn’t detract from the White Stripes. And why are people kicking off about it now? That song came out in March 2003.”

Collins’ debut single hits shelves on March 4th, while his album will get a release just a couple of weeks after.
