The Flaming Lips To Infuse Contributors Blood Into Record Store Day Release

Oklahoma rockers The Flaming Lips have revealed that they’ll be putting the blood of those contributing to their Record Store Day project – Ke$ha, Bon Iver, Nick Cake, Neon Indian, Prefuse 73, and Erykah Badu – into the middle of some of their very limited vinyl release.

The band have been working on material alongside the array of the stars which will be sold under the name ‘The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends’, and to make the release a little bit extra special, they’ll be putting ‘little bits of everybody's blood in the middle of the record’.

Speaking to Pitchfork, frontman and vocalist Wayne Coyne said: “What I'm going to try to do - and I'm collecting stuff for it as we speak - is I'm going to try to make a record that has every person's blood in the record. I don't have everybody's blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it's actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak...”

He added: “I'm going to try to take that same concept and put little bits of everybody's blood in the middle of this record. Like a glass specimen thing.”

Coyne went on to tell the site he’d collected the blood of Neon Indian, Prefuse 73 and Ke$ha already – and would be collecting the others as soon as possible. The record will be released on April 21st – but only half a dozen blood-infused records will be available.
