'The Black Keys Not Focussed On Success', Says Dan Auerbach

Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach has revealed that he and his bandmate Patrick Carney never intended to become famous – and are simply happy to still be making a career out of their music.

The award-winning band, who have seven studio albums under their belt, have seen a sharp rise in success in the past three or four years - but have told Interview Magazine that they're happy to simply be making enough money to survive from their 11 year career.

“We don't have expectations or dreams, because those will always just bite you in the ass,” Auerbach told the site. “We're very content with where we are and the speed we've been going. The only way we got through was by keeping our expectations very low. We didn't want to be rock stars.”

He continued: “It's not about success. Whatever happens, it doesn't matter. I would like to not go bankrupt or get some incurable disease, but other than that, I'm just happy to keep going.”

Auerbach even went on to say that he isn't your typical frontman, and isn't addicted to being in the limelight all the time.

“Some people love being on stage and really open up, and I'm sort of the opposite of that. I don't crave the spotlight. I'm still not comfortable even talking on stage.”

The Black Keys have a gig in Dublin lined-up for this August, as well as performances at Leeds Festival and Tennent's Vital. The Black Keys UK & Ireland Tour Dates are as follows:

Wed August 22nd 2012 - The O2 Dublin, Dublin
Fri August 24th 2012 - Richfield Avenue, Reading
