Superstar rapper 50 Cent has allegedly been sued after sampling a song without the original artist's permission, TMZ reports.
Fiddy's track 'Redrum', which features on his 2009 mixtape 'War Angel', apparently features a clip from 'Love Gonna Pack Up and Walk Out', a track by The Persuaders. Robert Poindexter, a member of The Persuaders, has now decided to take out a court case against the star – and told TMZ that he thinks that the fact Fiddy put the track on a free mixtape is no excuse to steal snippets of his music.
“Fifty Cents [sic] has not denied the infringement, but appears to be basing his defense solely on a frivolous and immaterial claim that the illegal version is not being commercially exploited, but is given away for free,” Poindexter's case reads.
Poindexter is hoping the lawsuit will result in a payment of $600,000 plus interest for 'punitive damages', as well as a disclosed amount in 'statutory damages'. 50 Cent and his management have refused to comment.
