Tom Clarke, frontman of The Enemy, has claimed that someone high-up the food chain at BBC Radio 1 'does not like' his band and told press that he's disappointed with the station.
The indie-rock outfit have just released their third album 'Streets in the Sky' and are disappointed it only reached #9 in the charts despite selling it for just £3.99 in an attempt to 'help put independent guitar music back on the top of the charts'. Following the chart, the band have spoken out about their feeling that someone simply doesn't like them at BBC Radio 1.
Kind of 'whatever' to the charts, it's full of shit anyway, Clarke said. We took time off and we knew we were coming back into a completely different marketplace. It's the wild west at the moment, it could do anything. The UK music chart at the moment is who's got the biggest bank. We all know Simon Cowell has, if you've got X Factor TV money to put behind it, it's a bonus.
It follows comments Clarke had previously made to The Sun, where he said: I grew up listening to Radio 1 and it's a shame we've not had their support, Clarke said. We're really disappointed as we love Radio 1. There is someone there at the top that doesn't like us.
