Cult Rock Outfit Ween Split

Cult American rockers Ween have split up after 25 years together, according to comments from frontman Aaron Freeman (a.k.a Gene Ween).

The long-running, experimental rock band, formed in 1984 by Freeman and his friend Mickey Melchiondo, have eleven studio albums under their belt but have decided to finally call time on their 25 year career – although Melchiondo may have not known as much about the split as Freeman.

Freeman told Rolling Stone: “It's time to move on. I'm retiring Gene Ween… It's been a long time, 25 years. It was a good run.” But, Melchiondo wrote via Facebook: “[That's] news to me, all I can say for now I guess.” His post has since been removed.

Regardless of Melchiondo's post, Freeman looks set to focus on his solo career as of now, and his full post to the Rolling Stone continued: “For me it's a closed book. In life sometimes, in the universe, you have to close some doors to have others open. There's no, 'Goddamn that such and such!' For me, I'd like to think it's a door I can close finally.”

You can listen to Ween's 'The Mollusk' below.
