The name Josh Kumra may not be known by all but chances are most will be familiar with the 21-year-old's exquisitely soulful voice. The tender-aged singer co-wrote and featured on Wretch 32’s Number 1 smash hit single ‘Don’t Go’ last summer.
Off the back of this dual conquest of the pop charts, Josh signed his own solo deal with RCA, toured extensively (picking up an impressive number of early door fans along the way) and has delivered a stunning set of songs for his debut album scheduled for release in September 2012.
First up though is his debut single ‘Helicopters & Planes’ with U.S.G member K Koke guesting (Roc Nation/RCA). Produced by the man of the moment Naughty Boy, it sees Josh deliver a slice of distinctly UK hip hop soul that sounds like a beat-peppered Ray Lamontagne or Gnarls Barkley in an introspective mood and slightly paranoid.
With the release of this, his debut solo single, headline shows and festival slots to come, Josh Kumra is set to stamp his mark well and truly all over 2012.
‘Helicopters & Planes’ will be released on 15th July on RCA and to celebrate the release Josh has made a three track acoustic EP (including an acoustic version of 'Helicopters & Planes') available for free download today at www.sohosession.joshkumra.com.
Stay tuned to Stereoboard for further exiting news on Josh in the coming months.
