Missing Stone Roses Fan Chris Brahney Found Dead

The fan reported missing following The Stone Roses gig in Heaton Park has reportedly been found dead in a canal in Salford.

22 year-old Chris Brahney was reported as missing after failing to return home after the iconic Manchester rockers’ homecoming gig on the Friday before last (June 29th). He was last seen at around 11:30 that evening by his friends, but was nowhere to be seen after that, and had been missing for the following week.

As the search continued and hopes of finding the man lowered, police were greeted with reports of a body in a Salford canal yesterday morning at 9:35am. A post-mortem examination will be taking place today in an attempt to find out what killed the young male, whilst police are still open for witnesses and help in solving the mystery.

A statement from the Greater Manchester police read: “Police are satisfied that the body found in a canal in Salford this morning is that of missing 22-year-old Christopher Brahney. Shortly before 9.35am this morning, Monday, 9 July 2012, police received a report of a body in the Manchester Ship Canal, near to Media City, Salford Quays.”

The ‘Help Find Chris Brahney’ Facebook page has since been updated with the message: “The family would like to thank everyone for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers that you have sent our way. Thank you for all the support, it has given them immense strength and courage. Please respect the family's wishes and ensure that they are left alone during this difficult time.”

Stereoboard wish to send our deep condolences and to Christopher's family and friends at what must be a truly emotional time.
